Duey Freeman, MA, LPC - Director
Duey Freeman is a licensed psychotherapist, teacher, consultant and administrator. He has extensive training and
experience in gestalt therapy, family therapy, bioenergetics, and therapy with children and adolescents.
After working in education as a teacher and principal for 12 years, he entered private practice.
He joined and revived the Gestalt Institute of the Rockies in 1982 and continues to teach extensively at
GIR as well as presenting nationally in the area of Gestalt Therapy and Development. He uses different
modalities with an emphasis on experimental processes, which includes Wilderness therapy and Gestalt Equine
Psychotherapy. In 2005, Duey Freeman and Joan Rieger founded the Gestalt Equine Institute of the Rockies.
Duey and Joan travel across the US and throughout the world teaching and helping others establish Institutes
and learn this style of therapy.
Duey teaches classes in Gestalt Therapy, Child development, Therapy with Children and Adolescents and Family
Therapy at Naropa University. He has been the clinical supervisor for many developing therapists and wilderness
programs. Duey has extensive experience working with horses and is the founder of Equine Journeys,
a Gestalt Equine Psychotherapy project were he works extensively with families, individuals and groups.
Duey believes that when we are working with horses in any capacity that we are partners with our horse in
each moment. This includes teaching, therapy, learning, riding and healing.
